Artist's Statement

With my view camera.

Photography allows me to quiet my mind and concentrate on the natural landscape before me. This has opened new ways of perceiving the world and these observations and experiences are what I try to convey in my landscape photography.

I primarily employ the use of a view camera when photographing landscapes. The details these cameras capture are what first attracted me to them. They also encourage a slowed down process and a more focused approach to what is in front of me. This enables me to see with new eyes.

I find the landscape a fascinating subject that never ceases to amaze and inspire me. If I photograph the landscape with care, thoughtfulness and patience it speaks to me on levels I might not otherwise experience. I hope these images I present speak to you as well.

Artist's Bio

Saulius Eidukas was born in Chicago, Illinois, in 1966. He received his first camera on his 18th birthday from his father and has been photographing ever since.

Saulius learned an appreciation and love of the natural world from an early age. From fishing and hiking trips with his father to spending his summers away from the big city at scout camp and long summer days along the shores of Lake Michigan all laid the foundation of his appreciation of the natural world.

In 1990 enrolled at Columbia College in Chicago majoring in fine art photography. In 1992 he took time off from his studies to travel, photograph and started his own stock photography business. Later Saulius returned to his academic studies and attended the University of Illinois at Chicago. There he continued to hone his craft and expand his photographic horizons.

In 1996 Saulius moved west to Oregon. Although Saulius did not find work as a photographer he never gave up his passion of photography and the natural world. He continued photographing while hiking and exploring his new found home in the Pacific Northwest. Saulius purchased his first view camera and continued to educate himself by attending photographic seminars, lectures and other photographic gatherings. Today Saulius resides in the town of Bend. Nestled in central Oregon near the cascade mountains with miles of designated wilderness and national forests all around he has found the idyllic setting to pursue his two life long passions of photography and the landscape.
